Roadgoose privacy policy
Beta version, 7 October 2026. A fuller privacy policy will replace this before the public release.
The short version
- No account. No ads. No analytics or tracking. We never sell or share your data.
- Maps, search, routing and navigation work on your phone, offline.
- The app only sends something when you use a feature that needs it, and only what that feature needs.
What stays on your phone
Your location, routes, favorites, search history, settings and My driving log stay on your phone. Plate-reader alerts
and "avoid cameras" routing run on the phone too. Speaking a Honk uses on-device speech recognition on iPhone; on
Android it uses the phone's own speech recognizer, which is on-device on recent phones.
The encrypted backup is sealed with a passcode only you know. We never see the passcode and cannot open the backup.
What leaves your phone, and when
- Map and voice downloads: maps come from the CoMaps download mirrors; natural voices, transit packs and
region data come from our server. These servers see your IP address and what is downloaded.
- Live traffic (Traffic layer): the app asks our server for traffic in your region. If you leave
"share anonymous speeds" on, the app sends road speeds without any device or account ID.
- Honks (road reports): a Honk you send is public: its type, a rounded location and the time are shown
to other drivers for a limited time. You can remove your own.
- Gaggles and Share my drive: positions, messages and push-to-talk voice go only to the people in your
gaggle or watching your drive, end-to-end encrypted. Our relay passes them on but cannot read them; it sees the
connecting IP addresses. Offline gaggles use Bluetooth between nearby phones, encrypted the same way.
- Street photos: only when you tap the button, the place's coordinates go to our server, which fetches a
photo from an open imagery service (Panoramax, Mapillary). Those services never see you.
- Satellite and radar: imagery tiles for the area you view come from our server (or a provider you choose
in settings, which asks you first).
- Founder pass: an anonymous, blind-signed token: we cannot link it to you or your phone.
Like any internet service, our servers see the IP address of each request. We do not use it to identify you, track
you or build profiles, and we do not share it.
